Ben Stokes was at his best during the World Cup finale against New Zealand. He was declared Player of the Match for his exceptional display in the best World Cup final in the history of cricket. Gerard Stokes, father of all-rounder Ben Stokes thinks he is the most hated father in New Zealand.

Ben Stokes scored 84 off 98 balls that prevented the Blackcaps from winning their maiden World Cup title. It was Ben Stokes’ knock that took the game into a Super Over.

Speaking after the finale, Stokes’ father stated that he is officially the most father in the eyes of Kiwi supporters at the moment.

“When we were watching it, it’s an incredible feeling having your son out there doing what he does and then getting right down to the last ball, so we probably got the best of both worlds as I see it,” he said. “I had one or two say I was the most hated father in New Zealand at the moment but that was tongue in cheek, or I hope it was anyway,” he added.

The English star player was born in Christchurch and he moved to Northern England when he was 12 years old.
