The incredible Indian opener Rohit Sharma, who has already broken many records, is just one six away from reaching the milestone of 400 sixes in international cricket. He is looking forward to achieve this feat in the first encounter against West Indies at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.
He is on the verge of joining Chris Gayle (534 sixes) and Shahid Afridi (476 sixes) in the list of players who have slammed 400 sixes in international cricket.
He is in top form at the moment and is all set to face rivals. With a total of 2539 runs in 101 T20I matches, Sharma is aiming to deal in runs in India’s upcoming T20I series.
Rohit was the highest run scorer in the World Cup, where he also slammed five tons. He made his performance counts when he was asked to open the innings in Whites. His performance against South Africa had class written all over it. The right-handed batsman was awarded the Man of the Series for his display.
MS Dhoni is away from cricket since India's exit from the World Cup. There were rumors of his possible comeback in the upcoming series against the Windies but he has extended his sabbatical. He recently took part in a practice session in Ranchi and is expected to decide about his future after the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
He was asked about his future plans in one of the events but he refused to give definite time period. When Sourav Ganguly, the new BCCI president, was asked about MS Dhoni’s career, he shot back at said, “Ask MS Dhoni.”
Even MSK Prasad-led selection committee had decided to move away from MS Dhoni considering next year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Meanwhile, he is enjoying his break from cricket and is spending quality with family and friends.
In a video that has gone viral, Dhoni can be seen singing for his friends. The former India skipper choose popular Bollywood song Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaaye Jab Koi Mushkil Pad Jaaye to entertain his friends.
MS Dhoni and wife Sakshi hosted popular Punjabi singer Jassie Gill and their friends at their home in Ranchi. Dhoni is spending quality time with family and friends at the moment. Sakshi took to social media to share pictures of the gathering while Gill also posted pictures on his official Instagram handle.
Gill thanked Dhoni and Sakshi for hosting him and his friends. . "Thanku @mahi7781 bai & @sakshisingh_r for having us there We all had a wonderful time !! #unforgettabletrip," he captioned his post.
The former India skipper last played for India during the World Cup in England and Wales. He took a two months break to serve in the Indian Army and was expected to return to action, but the veteran has extended his break, and won't be seen in action till next year.
Indian head coach had recently said that MS Dhoni's future with the Indian team will depend on his performance in the Indian Premier League.
"It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL. What are the other people doing with the wicket-keeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni's form. The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided," said Shastri.
These are early days yet as far as the World Test Championship is concerned – just four months into a two-year cycle before the winner is determined – and so no clear predictions can be made. This despite India getting away to a runaway lead in the points table with their tally of 360 points being more than the total points notched up by the other eight teams in the fray. However a few points may still be made without fear of being hopelessly off the mark by the time the final stages are reached.
It’s not just the impressive points tally and their played seven won seven record that makes India early favourites to make the final at Lord’s in 2021. They are a formidable side symbolized by their No 1 ranking for some time now in the ICC points table. One just cannot see them have too many bad away games taking for granted that they are unbeatable at home.
On the form shown so far Australia would appear to be their nearest rivals. They are second in the table some distance behind but on the evidence of the Ashes and their romp over Pakistan it is clear that a nucleus of a fine Aussie side is forming and they are one team that can match India in all departments of the game. The fifth place they occupy in the ICC rankings can best be ignored.
One cannot rule out the chances of New Zealand and England both on their standing and the team personnel. It is a pity that their just concluded series was not part of the WTC as the itinerary was made before plans for the WTC were drawn up. New Zealand would obviously have benefited in the points tally but it is clear that they will be up there challenging strongly for a place in the final. They are well deserving of their second place in the ICC rankings and they too on team personnel will be hard to beat particularly at home. One can also expect England to be one of the main challengers for the championship their loss to New Zealand notwithstanding. Their showing in the Ashes showed that they are a team to be taken seriously.
Sri Lanka are currently in fourth spot in the WTC points table with 60 points from one win and one loss but one cannot see them as serious contenders for a place in the final. As for the four other teams in the fray – West Indies, Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh – none of them have opened their account and even if these are early days it can be said that it will be a major surprise if one of them is able to make it to the title clash at Lord’s. South Africa may be perched at No 3 in the ICC rankings but they are a team in transition and one cannot see much change in their fortunes over the next couple of years. Pakistan is a mercurial side but their thrashing at the hands of Australia exposed several chinks in their armour and they are not expected to make much progress in the points tally. West Indies and Bangladesh should be among the also rans when the points tally is completed.
Ahead of the much-awaited T20I series against West Indies, the young Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has given his views on bowling during the powerplay overs.
He is all set to show his prowess in front of the home crowd. However, things will not be easier for the talented cricketer in the upcoming tournament as he will have to bowl to one of the toughest sides in T20Is.
Sundar himself accepted the fact that powerplay bowling is a tough job in T20Is. “To hit the right length is very difficult and of course errors will happen. It's a tough job, but that's something that excites me as well”.
The Chennai-born cricketer, who made his sensational T20I debut in December 2017, was given the responsibility of bowling in the powerplays during the prestigious Nidahas Trophy in 2018. Since then, he has done reasonably well for India.
The 20-year-old scored a lot of runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20. He accumulated more than 300 runs for his state team and is looking forward to perform even better for Team India.
With this next T20I series on home soil, Sundar is aiming to secure his place in Indian cricket team for T20 World Cup 2020.
It was a matter of time before Virat Kohli took back his number one Test ranking from Steve Smith. Virat Kohli, who had a memorable pink-ball Test match against Bangladesh, surpassed Smith in the recently released ICC Test Rankings for batsmen. The Indian skipper is five points ahead of his Aussie counterpart, who had an ordinary Test series against Pakistan.
Virat Kohli was ruling Test cricket since long, but Smith’s remarkable run of from in the Ashes against England, ended his run in the ICC Test Rankings.
The 31-year-old scored a well compiled hundred in the second Test match against Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens and Smith’s most recent failure worked in Virat’s favour.
He was hailed by cricket fans after he was crowned as the number one batsman in Whites.
The legendary sprinter Yohan Blake recently revealed a unique wish of playing in the Indian Premier League. The great Jamaican athlete has a desire to represent either Kolkata Knight Riders or Royal Challengers Bangalore in the grand cricket carnival.
After achieving numerous accolades in the track and field events, the 29-year-old millennium superstar, is now willing to play other sports as well.
“I would love to feature in franchise cricket; I would even love to own a franchise in India. And most importantly, play for either KKR or RCB,” Blake said in his recent interview. He even added that he got an offer from Caribbean Premier League but he turned down the opportunity to focus on his training sessions for World Championships in Doha.
London Olympics silver medallist, Blake highly admires the powerful duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. He loves the way they play in the thrilling IPL encounters.
As far as his sprinting career is concerned, Blake won the bronze medal in 2018 Commonwealth Games in 100 meters category. He came to limelight after his remarkable performance in the World Championships where he became the youngest 100 m world champion in the history of sprinting.
After his desire to train Hardik Pandya was not fulfilled, it seems Abdul Razzaq has decided to make himself a butt of jokes. The former Pakistan all-rounder stated that he would have easily faced India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. He feels fast bowlers were more frightening during his playing days in comparison to current crop of bowlers.
“After having faced world class bowlers in my time, I would have had no problem against a bowler like Bumrah. Pressure would have been on him,” Razzaq told CricketPakistan in an interview.
He added, “I have played against great bowlers like Glenn Mcgrath and Wasim Akram, so Bumrah is a baby bowler in front of me and I could have easily dominated and attacked him.”
Razzaq also revealed the reason behind Bumrah's success in international cricket.“Bumrah is doing very well and has improved a lot. He has an awkward action and hits the seam perfectly, which is why he is effective.”
He also blasted Pakistan players for their performance in Australia.“We were struggling to qualify for the World Cup, our Test ranking has gone down and we are lucky to be number one in Twenty20 Internationals.
“You can’t say we are No 1 because we are really good. Teams like India, England and Australia lost their matches and that helped us in securing the No 1 spot. We desperately need to improve our ranking in other formats and not just focus on player’s individual performances and averages.”
Manish Pandey married actress Ashrita Shetty on Monday. The wedding rituals took place in Mumbai a day after he led Karnataka to a one-run victory over Tamil Nadu in the finale of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Apart from family members, a number of famous personalities were present to bless the newly married couple. Ashrita is a renowned name in the Tamil industry and has done quite a few big movies in her career. Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian all-rounder, was also present to wish Manish Pandey and his beautiful wife.
The southpaw is famous for his dance moves and was seen dancing with Manish Pandey. The groom and Yuvraj rocked the dance floor.
Manish Pandey will next play in the upcoming T20I series against Kieron Pollard-led West Indies. He was selected for the T20I and ODI series after performing consistently in the domestic circuit.
Yuvraj had a memorable outing in the recently concluded edition of T10 league. His team Maratha Arabians ended up winning the tournament.
David Warner was unbeaten on 335 in the Test against Pakistan when Tim Paine decided to declare Australia’s innings. He was 65 runs short of Brian Lara’s record of 400* when the declaration stopped him.
Coincidentally, the batting legend Brian Lara was also in Adelaide for some personal work and was getting ready to meet Warner, who was looking set to break his record before Tim Paine’s decision.
Warner was left stranded at 335* and missed the golden opportunity to become the highest scorer in Tests.
The explosive opening batsman Warner later met with Brian Lara and shared his picture with the West Indies legend on his Instagram profile.
David Warner, in his Instagram post, believes that it is still possible for him to surpass the 400-mark and said, "Great to catch up with the legend himself. Maybe one day I will get another chance to Knock 400 off."
On the other hand, the 50-year old Brian Lara applauded David Warner and predicted that he can reach the 400 mark again as Warner is not a ‘spring chicken’, but a very solid and consistent player.
“I still think Warner may have time to do it in his career. I know he is not a spring chicken but as soon as you get that 300 you know how to get 400. He may get another shot at it.
“He is a very attacking player and that is the sort of player who can always set you up for a win. I know you need stabilizers but you also need one or two players like David Warner and Sir Vivian Richards who can take the game with their bats.”
The world-class spinner of Afghanistan, Rashid Khan has mocked Manish Pandey for not inviting him on his marriage with Tamil actress Ashrita Shetty. While congratulating the newly-married couple on Twitter, he wished his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate a happy married life.
“Congratulations my brother @im_manishpandey. Raja wishing you a lifetime of happiness together and a love that grows stronger with each passing day. Lekan Invite Q nahi kya (But why didn’t I get an invite), wrote Rashid in a tweet.
Both Manish Pandey and Ashrita Shetty tied the knot on December 2 and their beautiful wedding pictures were liked by Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and other famous celebrities. Notably, Pandey will not get enough time to celebrate his wedding as he will join the Indian cricket team for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies.
The countdown for the much-awaited T20I series between India and West Indies has begun as only two days are left for the commencement of an exciting battle on Indian soil.
Former West Indies paceman Ian Bishop praised Indian paceman Shami and said, “There are so many. Jofra Archer. I almost feel when he's on song that it's the perfect streamlined technique. Naseem Shah. Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Shami - oh god, I love Shami! That whole core group of what India bring, where I don't want to pick anyone and say, "This one more than the other."
Shami has been in top touch in the last few years. He is the leading wicket-taker for India in the ongoing World Test Championship. The pace sensation was instrumental in India’s comprehensive win against South Africa and Bangladesh.
He was rewarded with a place in T20I and ODI squads for the series against Windies. Shami wants to represent India in the next year’s T20 World Cup in Australia, and his performance against the visitors will play a big role in his selection for the future assignments.
Former West Indies paceman Ian Bishop is impressed with the immense talent of the ‘yorker king’ Jasprit Bumrah.
“Now it’s been built on with a captain who likes fast bowlers, who believes in them. But also the fact that you’ve found a generational talent in Jasprit Bumrah. Generational because he plays all formats of the game very well. And (Mohd.) Shami has taken his game to another level. Ishant (Sharma) has also gone up another level,” he added.
The Indian pacer is currently recovering from his back injury and is expected to return in 2020. He last played against West Indies and has missed the series against South Africa and Bangladesh. Jasprit Bumrah was not named in the squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against the Windies.
Ian Bishop also picked his favorite fast bowlers in the world, he first picked the dangerous and young English pacer Jofra Archer.
Former West Indies paceman Ian Bishop praised the rise of Indian pace battery with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.
However, the 52-year-old Bishop feels that the foundation of the Indian pace battery was laid by former India captain Kapil Dev and built on by current captain Virat Kohli.
“Let’s remember that this group of bowlers did not emanate right now. The foundation was laid - if you go back to Kapil (Dev) and down the line, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Sreesanth.”
Bishop also applauded Kohli’s passion for building a fast bowling unit which has helped in improving India’s win-loss record in overseas.
The Indian skipper, who scored a well compiled hundred in the last Test match against Bangladesh, have surpassed Steve Smith in the latest ICC Rankings for Test Batsmen. Virat Kohli has 928 points and is ahead of the Aussie batsman by 5 points.
The former Aussie skipper had an ordinary series against visiting Pakistan and he failed to score even one fifty for the first time in his Test career.
Virat Kohli, who is the best batsman across formats, was dethroned by Steve Smith after his fabulous performance in the Ashes against England.
He will lead India in the upcoming T20 series against West Indies. The visitors have the firepower to defeat India in the shortest format of the game.
