Sri Lanka eyes direct qualification for the World Cup

Sri Lanka cricket team will be looking forward for direct qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 when they take on India in a 5 match ODI series starting in Dambulla on Sunday. The eighth ranked team needs two wins against India to get an automatic qualification for the cricket's biggest event in England couple of years later.

Two wins will push the Sri Lanka tally to 90 points whereas the Windies, who are currently placed ninth can reach a maximum of 88 points even if they win all the their remaining six matches before the cut off date of September 30. The top seven sides along with hosts England gain direction qualification for the tournament.

However, the chances doesn't look too good for the hosts as they have been going through a huge slump which saw them lose an ODI series against the 11th ranked Zimbabwe recently. They also suffered a humiliating whitewash against the no 1 ranked Indian side in the three Test series.
