Rain means no play

Australia A managed to stem the embarrassing flow of runs from England's opening batsmen, but it had nothing do with improved line and length from the home team's beleaguered bowlers. Persistent rain forced play to be washed out for the entire day, the second of a four-day tour match which England is using to prepare for the first Ashes test starting Nov. 21 at Brisbane. England will resume at 318-0 after captain Alastair Cook (154 not out) and Michael Carberry (153 not out) batted through the first day without loss. Heavy rain fell throughout and the umpires decided that the run-up at the southern end of Bellerive Oval was too rain-affected for any play to be possible.
