Fixing allegations are baseless

Indian cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Ashish Nehra, the members of the World Cup winning team in 2011, have blasted Arjuna Ranatunga for his allegations regarding the finale of the event. The former Sri Lankan captain had said that an inquiry should be conducted on Sri Lanka’s defeat against India.

“I was also in India giving commentaries at the time. When we lost, I was distressed and I had a doubt. We must investigate what happened to Sri Lanka at the 2011 World Cup final. I cannot reveal everything now, but one day I will. There must be an inquiry.”

His statement has not gone down well with Gambhir and Nehra, who have asked him to come forward with proofs before speaking anything about the whole issue.

Gautam Gambhir, who is not part of the Indian team, played a match winning knock in that match and was one of the star Indian players, who was praised for his performance. On the other hand, Ashish Nehra was not part of the playing eleven after injuring his hand during the semifinal match against Pakistan. The duo have expressed their disappointed after Ranatunga put Lankan players under the scanner. This is the first time someone has spoken about the final, which has created an unnecessary controversy.

The former Sri Lankan captain is also not happy with Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.
